What is evident in three to four of the paintings that comprise the exhibition is that Tint’s sweeping line gesture underpins and anchors the movement of flowing color. Like Danielle Frankenkthal—another artist in the show—Tint utilizes the subtle charcoal line and then sweeps across the surface with paint bands and pools of color.

The Octavia Art Gallery presents Speaking in Hues, an exhibition that features colorful, abstract paintings by three North Eastern based artists. Among them, is Francine Tint.
According to the gallery press release, Tint's work is informed and influenced by the color field movement. “She is a colorist first and foremost. She works instinctively, creating expressive pieces, which convey a unique engagement with light, color, and surface. She integrates mixed media within her paintings, including hand-drawn elements, poured washes, and collage. Her paintings are the result of a process of disclosure, drawn from her own life events, dreams, and literature.”

In works such as Blue Mind and The Color of Space, it’s as if the artist has invited us to journey with her to the furthest reaches of space. As Gaston Bachelard proposed in his book The Poetics of Space, every action opens up yet another layer in our thinking thus linking to our existence or the viewer’s dimensions of memory.
The lines drawn across the canvas suggest landscape but also evoke movement and the contours of elevation suggesting weightlessness or floating above the land and hills.
Ode to New Year becomes a massive landmass due to the artist’s use of poured paint in the upper third of the canvas. Certainly, her use of the paint here is vital to the building of the abstraction teetering on landscape.

Tint has been the proud recipient of many grants and awards such as the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Grant, two Pollock Krasner Grants, and a recent Honorable Mention from the Butler Institute.
Her work has been shown extensively both nationally and internationally and is held in the permanent collections of over twenty-seven museums, including the Portland Art Museum, the Heckscher Museum of Art, NY, and the Krannert Art Museum, IL. Tint has been featured in over thirty solo shows, most recently at Cavalier Galleries in New York City and part of Cross Contemporaries virtual exhibition focused on Women Artists.
