Highlights from Skinner's January 12th European Furniture & Decorative Arts Auction

BOSTON, MA – Skinner, Inc. will present an auction of European Furniture & Decorative Arts in its Boston Gallery on Friday, January 12th. With over 600 lots on offer, the auction will feature an expansive selection of fine silver as well as European furniture and decorative arts of the 17th through early 20th centuries.

The auction opens on Friday, January 12th at 10AM with 300 lots of silver featuring a broad range of flatware and hollowware from the United States, England, and Europe. English silver opens the sale with strong early offerings as well as some unusual pieces of Georgian tableware. Continental European silver offerings are highlighted by some large Italian silver centerpieces as well as French and Russian tableware, while selections from American section feature hollowware from strong makers such as Tiffany and Gorham. Italian .800 Silver Center Bowl and Stand, (Lot 122, Estimate $3,000-5,000)

Furniture, decorative art, and fine ceramic offerings begin at lot 300 and span a wide array of styles and mediums from several sizable Herend porcelain dinner services to two Sevres-style porcelain mounted tables. The top lot of the sale is an impressive micromosaic-mounted table with a central scene of St. Peter’s Square. This lot is complimented by another micromosaic plaque featuring the Arch of Titus. Fine ceramic offerings include an assortment of English ceramics featuring Wedgwood. Sculpture is also well-represented with numerous examples in bronze as well as an attractive marble bust of Venus.
