The Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) will present an exhibition of video work by New York­–based artist Kenneth Tam (born 1982) starting December 23, 2017. “Kenneth Tam: Cold Open” challenges societal norms and assumptions regarding the male body as it explores themes of physical intimacy, sexuality, and vulnerability. The exhibition will be on view at Mia through April 8, 2018.

BALTIMORE, MD (December 15, 2017) — The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) presents a focused exhibition of works by Senga Nengudi, one of the most inventive artists to combine abstract sculpture and performance art. Head Back & High: Senga Nengudi, Performance Objects (1976–2015), on view at the BMA through May 27, 2018, features a selection of eight works that span the artist’s career and underscore her continued ability to construct poetic environments out of salvaged materials.

Compared to the fast-paced rotating exhibition schedule of many art museums, most historic home museums change their displays of art and decorative objects fairly infrequently. The holidays give these institutions the chance to be more festive and celebratory than their white-walled gallery counterparts can be.

This spring The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), will conduct a thorough conservation of Jackson Pollock’s abstract expressionist painting Number 1, 1949 (1949), a treasure of MOCA’s collection since it was donated to the museum in 1989 by Rita Schreiber in loving memory of her husband, Taft Schreiber.
Opening this month at the Denver Art Museum, Linking Asia: Art, Trade & Devotion explores the breadth and depth of the museum's Asian art collection. The exhibit includes objects retrieved from three shipwrecks, on view for the first time, as well as visitor favorites such as Shiva, King of Dancers (Shiva Nataraja). Linking Asia: Art, Trade & Devotion features approximately 150 works in a variety of media, including sculptures, ceramics, textiles, and scrolls.
The Museum of Modern Art’s David Rockefeller Award will be presented to Oprah Winfrey at a luncheon in New York on March 6, 2018. The Award is presented annually by MoMA to an individual from the business community who exemplifies enlightened generosity and effective advocacy of cultural and civic endeavors. The event honorary co-chairs are Leon D. Black, Co-Chairman, Marie-Josée Kravis, President, and Jerry I.
